John J. Kennedy Memorial Golf Tournament
September 2003

The American Ireland Fund Golf Classic, newly named The John J. Kennedy Memorial Tournament, was recently held at Charles River Country Club in Newton, MA. We enjoyed the blessings of beautiful weather, a full field of players, and some very close matches. The festivities continued with a magnificent dinner and a very successful raffle/auction session that allowed us to continue our efforts to financially support children's charities in Ireland.

On behalf of my immediate family, all the AIF Committee Members, Kingsley Aikins - President/CEO of The American Ireland Fund, our volunteers, and all the gracious hotel/golf entities in Ireland who have made our auction process so rewarding, I would like to say thank you for generously allowing us the opportunity to carry on the tradition my father initiated so many years ago. I'm certain he was watching, and boastful to all who would listen, about what we accomplished "for the kids."

~William P. Kennedy

This year's American Ireland Fund's fifteenth Annual Golf Tournament at the wonderful Charles River Country Club is a bitter sweet occasion as it will bring back many memories of the incomparable Jack Kennedy.

There are few events in the calendar of the American Ireland Fund more associated with one person than this tournament and it is a lasting tribute to his legacy and indominatable drive and energy. Jack, as we all know never took "no" for an answer - the word quite simply didn't exist in his vocabulary and was replaced by the much more positive sounding "not yet".

No obstacle couldn't be over-come; no recalcitrant sponsor could skip out of his clutches. In everything he did in building this great event he always kept the cause front and center. The net effect of his philanthropy is that he improved the lives of so many people in Ireland and the physical buildings that now exist speak volumes for his dedication and perseverance. That this great tradition has been handed on like an Olympic torch, to his son Bill and loyal friend Paul McNeily, is entirely fitting, and the response of all Jack's old friends and golfing buddies says it all.

So thank you for all you are doing to honor Jack, support Bill, Paul and the committee, and help a great charity in Ireland. As you swing for Ireland, Jack will be smiling down, ever watchful for the odd foot wedge, duffed tee shot and yanked putt. He would be very gratified and very proud, as we all are, of each and every one of you.

~Kingsley Aikins

We are delighted that, once again, we held The American Ireland Fund Golf Classic at Charles River Country Club. One difference you will note, in this our 15th year, is the re-naming of our Classic to the J. Kennedy Memorial in honor of the late, Founding Golf Director of the AIF.

Jack worked tirelessly and un-selfishly over the years to make sure that we could "take care of the kids". We proudly hope to be able to carry on this (and his) tradition on bringing you the finest event of its kind in this area of the country, While assisting children's medical charities in Ireland.

We sincerely thank you all for your continued and extremely generous support.

~Paul F. McNealy, AIF Golf Committee
