Hardball’s own Chris Matthews stood in for NBC’s
Tim Russert who got fogged out, in toasting the evening’s
honoree, columnist Mike Barnicle. Mike spoke eloquently
of the relationship he has had with Ireland through
the years as well as his hopes for the future of the
island.
Kingsley Aikins, CEO of the Ireland
Funds, shared with the crowd some key thoughts on the
power of philanthropy. He profiled Peace
Players International,
a program which uses the American game of basketball
to unite and educate children and their communities.
Peace Players International were recently awarded the
Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPY's.
