The 26th
Annual Boston Gala took place Thursday, November
15th. 900 guests gathered in a spectacularly transformed
ballroom at the Marriott Copley Boston. The evening
was a celebration of the growth of Rowallane
Integrated College, a school in Northern Ireland that educates
Catholic and Protestant children together.
Kingsley Aikins, CEO of The Worldwide
Ireland Funds, began the evening by giving an update
on the historic peace accord reached in Northern Ireland
just 7 short months ago. He thanked those gathered
for staying the course with us through the last 3 decades
and noted that there was still much work to be done
in Ireland.
Bridget Hester, Boston Regional Director, then illustrated
to guests the importance of their continued support
by showcasing the growth of Rowallane Integrated College
over the last year. Ms. Hester introduced two very
special guests, Erin Doherty and Shannon McMullan,
students at Rowallane. The young ladies told those
in attendance they would not have met if not for Rowallane
and thanked all of the guests for giving them the opportunity
to attend their school.
Sean M. Healey, CEO of Affiliated Managers Group,
chaired this year's very successful gala evening. He
was backed by an incredible dinner committee and his
vice-chairman, Jim Connolly of Citizens Bank. The two
students from Rowallane presented Sean Healey with
the Chairman's Appreciation Award. Mr. Healey spoke
eloquently of the strong ties between Ireland and the
people of Boston. He was joined by his wife Kerry Healey,
who noted the important role education has played in
both of their lives. Upon closing, Mr. Healey raised
a toast to the enduring relationship between the US
and Ireland.
Guests were treated to the Mark Greel Orchestra throughout
dinner and dessert kicked off on a high note as the
dance floor was filled as The Marsels took the stage.
It is because of our supporters in Boston that Rowallane
College exists today and for this, The American Ireland
Fund extends a phenomenal debt of gratitude to all
of you.
