Supporting
A portion of the proceeds of The American Ireland Fund’s 28th Annual Boston Gala will be given to two local Boston projects and a Dublin project:

The Irish Pastoral Centre assists Irish immigrants in varying capacities and facilitates their transition to life in America so that it may be a positive experience. This American Ireland Fund grant will fund certain capital needs related to the vital work the Centre does with the elderly, who are primarily, but not exclusively, Irish or Irish American. With the closing of churches and parishes and the migration of children to more distant suburbs, many elderly face the social breakdown of remaining in their homes, isolated and alone, or in places where they have no social network. These are the so-called “Forgotten Irish,” many living in poverty and social isolation after a lifetime of raising families and sending money back to the “old country.”

Camp Harbor View was created to offer Boston’s children a true summer camp experience. Camp Harbor View offers children who live in Boston’s at-risk neighborhoods the opportunity to leave the city and participate in a four-week program. Offering traditional activities such as hiking, arts and crafts, and swimming, Camp Harbor View also includes programs that strive to build children’s academic and leadership strengths.

The Belvedere Youth Club serves over 500 youth and is located in the North Inner City in Dublin, one of the most deprived areas in Ireland. It is one of the largest programs of its kind in Ireland and includes facilities such as a sports hall, gymnasium, training kitchen, computer training and recreational areas and provides after-school programs. Like Camp Harbor View, it also provides summer camp experience for youth from the most-at-risk neighborhoods in Dublin.
