A presentation was made to John and Pauline Ryan in recognition
of their magnificent gift towards the establishment of the
Tipperary Technology Park in their native Tipperary Town.
It was made by Mr. Val OConnor who is Chairman of
the Park.
Tipperary Town is famous the world over through the song
Its a long way to Tipperary, however the
town has suffered from emigration and the decline in Agriculture.
One of the sons of Tipperary Town is John Ryan who left
Tipperary with a good education and many ideas in his head.
He founded Macrovision and has retired back to Ireland.
Tipperary Town needed to build an Enterprise Centre to
hold its young educated people and the community decided
to build an Information Technology Park to help reduce unemployment.
The group found that grants were not as readily available
as before and asked the Ryans to help. They generously made
a €127,000 donation to assist its seed capital. This
worked. We were able to source two other grants of €127,000
and a bigger grant of €359,000 from Enterprise Ireland,
and were able to obtain the site of the building for Free.
The total cost of the project is €1.7 million.
The IT center opened in August 2003 and has 31 new jobs
created. Its debt it still high at over €700,000 but
it is well on its way to creating 50 new jobs within three
years.
Thanks John and Pauline for making dreams come
through.
