Projects Supported by Young Leaders

PeacePlayers International
PeacePlayers is a unique organization that uses the medium of basketball to work towards peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland. As a sport with no affiliation to any religious or cultural identity in the North, basketball provides a neutral playing field for Catholic and Protestant children.

Special Olympics Ireland
The mission of Special Olympics Ireland provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with learning disabilities.

Rowallane Integrated College In Northern Ireland
94% of children attend religiously segregated schools, perpetuating years of cultural and social divisions. The Integrated Education Movement grew out of a desire by parents in Northern Ireland to have their children educated in integrated schools. Rowallane Integrated College (the equivalent of US high school) is the only third level school in the area.

The Boston Young Leaders were established in 1991 by a group of young Irish—American professionals who sought to connect with their heritage and pursue their vision of a stronger, more vibrant Ireland. Since our inception, The Boston Young Leaders’ St. Patrick’s Day event has evolved from a small cocktail reception to a major fundraising initiative. The annual event has helped The American Ireland Fund raise money for projects such as The Special Olympics, Rowallane Integrated College, and PeacePlayers International.

“We won’t always know whose lives we’ve touched and made better for having cared, because actions can sometimes have unforeseen ramifications. What’s important is that you care and act.”
