Dallas St. Patrick's Day Celebration of Story and Song : 3.15.07

The setting was the exquisite Meadows Museum on the Southern Methodist University Campus.  The museum houses on of the largest collections of Spanish Art outside of Spain.  In fact, the King and Queen of Spain attended the opening of the new facility seven years ago.

It was indeed a setting worthy of our Celtic balladeer Danny O’Flaherty who I am sure could claim kinship with the ancient Kings of Connaught.  Danny captivated the audience with his music from the west of Ireland and educated us all with his stories of the Irish in his adopted homeland of New Orleans.  The devastation of Hurricane Katrina made it impossible to keep open his Irish pub in the Irish Channel of New Orleans.

Kudos to Barbara Miercort who chaired and orchestrated the event.  Barbara herself is a Celtic scholar (she has authored a book about Celtic Ireland called Fires in the Mist). Also to Mike Corboy and Don Hanratty whose able help ensured the success of the evening and to Page Tucker and Mary Lee Cox who never fail to lend a helping hand.  Birthday greetings were extended to Jim Keyes and Dulany Howland.

The evening was dedicated to the memory of Joan DeDitius, President of the Irish Cultural Society and long time American Ireland Fund supporter. We were privileged to have Joan’s family in attendance.
