Invigorated by their attendance at The Ireland Funds Annual
Conference last June, the Texans embraced a round of activities,
proving that good people doing good things can also have
fun along the way.
Such notables as Tim Severin of Brendan Voyage fame came
to lecture and was feted by Cliff and Barbara Miercourt.
The Knight of Glin, Desmond Fitzgerald, President of the
Irish Georgian Society and his Executive Director Mary O'Brien
visited in November.
A benefit co-chaired by Caroline Rose Hunt and Vivian
Young at the Lady Primrose followed by a supper party at
the magnificent home of Christy and Gretchen Flanagan where
a raffle raised $10,000 for the Fund's Irish Georgian Society's
Challenge Grant.
Bill Shaw of the 174 Trust in Northern Ireland was in Dallas
for a week at the invitation of Mike Corboy and Ray Quinn.
He met with church and civic leaders to tell of his efforts
to promote peace and reconciliation in the infamous Ardoyne.
Ambassador Sean O'Huiginn and Kingsley Aikins were the
guests of honor at the premier fundraiser for children's
charities at the Chrystal Charity Ball last December. The
world-famous River Dance' troop was featured as the main
entertainment to the delight of all attending.
At the moment it is full steam ahead in preparation for
a pre-conference trip to the Great Irish French wine chateaux
of Medoc. As Mike Corboy stated at the annual board meeting
in Washington, We will be the only group coming to the Dublin
Conference to dry out!'
