The 2002 Thomas J Tierney Irish American Cup Invitational
The fifth Annual American Ireland Fund Golf Tournament
took place last May at The Northwood Golf Club in Dallas.
Tommy Gallagher and Paddy Shanahan led the Irish team,
hoping to retain the Waterford Crystal Harp that they had
won for the past two years.
Unfortunately for them Tom Corcorans Felcor Team
carried the day for Texas.
This was a very significant tournament as its fundraising
focus was the Special Olympics World Games 2003, taking
place June 2003 in Dublin.
Thanks to the hard work of Co-chairmen John and Joe Tillotson
and new Texas Board member Don Hanratty, a significant sum
was realized from the festive four days.
Highlights of the long weekend were the traditional Bennett
party once again replete with Elviss and a surprise
appearance by Marilyn Monroe.
A tremendous day was spent at the McNamara retreat on Cedar
Creek Lake. Director of Special Olympics Texas, Margaret
Larsen attended the Annual Dinner with Special Olympian
Herbert Ellis who gave an emotional presentation.
