The 2004 Thomas J Tierney Irish American Cup Invitational

Dear Friends of The American Ireland Fund,

Welcome to the 7th annual Thomas Tierney Irish American Cup Challenge. Each year this event affords us another opportunity to demonstrate our support of The American Ireland Fund.

In keeping with the Fund's commitment to peace and reconciliation projects in Ireland, this year's event will benefit Scouting Ireland in their continuing efforts to afford the youth of both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with opportunities to meet and share common interests and experiences in a safe and nurturing atmosphere. In 2004, for the first time in history, the previously separate Roman Catholic and Protestant scouting groups joined together to make one organization. Their efforts have resulted in the establishment of Ireland's Peace and Reconciliation Youth Activity Center at Castle Saunderson, located on the border between Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland. A portion of the monies raised from our golf tournament will support the Castle Saunderson Youth Project. Another portion of the proceeds from our tournament will be used to send a group of Eagle Scouts from the North Texas area to Castle Saunderson during the summer of 2004.

I would like to thank Eamonn Lynch, CEO of Scouting Ireland / Castle Saunderson, for serving as the Honorary Chairman of this year's event. I would like to thank Martin Burbridge, Chief Scout of Scouting Ireland, and Dr. James Brooks, National Council Representative, and Raul Aguilar, Executive Board Member, Circle 10 Council of The Boy Scouts of America, for participating in and representing their respective scouting organizations at this event.

This tournament and the activities associated with it would not have been possible without the outstanding dedication and hard work of this year's committee, and the generous support of our sponsors and tournament participants.

I appreciate the opportunity of serving as chairman of this year's tournament and hope each of you will continue to support The American Ireland Fund so its valuable work can be continued.

Michael P. Geary
