An Irish Evening was held at the Center for Irish Studies at University of St. Thomas in Houston sponsored by The American Ireland Fund with the Rev. Bill Shaw from the 174 Trust of North Belfast speaking on “Northern Ireland: Steps toward Reconciliation.” The September 14th lecture was well received by approximately 300 people.

At the preceding reception also sponsored by the AIF, university president Dr. Robert Ivany, spoke of the ties that the University of St. Thomas maintains with Ireland. He introduced a business studies student from Queen’s University and a Fulbright scholar from University of Cork, both in Houston for a year. (St. Thomas was one of four universities chosen to participate in a new Fulbright fellowship program to promote the Irish language joining New York University, University of Notre Dame, and Boston College.)

On behalf of the Fund, Netta Blanchard presented Dr. Ivany with the book “A Kingdom of Wine” by Ted Murphy. WineGeese wines Leeuwin Estate and Château de la Ligne were served.
