Los Angeles Dinner 2002
Actor Gregory Peck and Sportscaster Vin Scully shared
the honor of being this year's American Ireland Fund LA
honorees. The Gala Dinner held at the Regent Beverly Wilshire
raised more than $200,000 for programs in Ireland.
Unfortunately, Gregory Peck was unable to attend being ill
with bronchitis. His wife, Veronique accepted his Lifetime
Achievement Award on his behalf, from longtime friend Charlton
Heston.
She spoke of his "strong ties to Ireland", and
his "support of numerous arts organizations there."
Vin Scully received the annual Hope & History Award,
for his sportscasting that has kept Dodgers fans informed
since 1950. "A humorist, a poet and a storyteller",
said Kingsley Aikins, in conferring the honor.
