Site of seven U.S. Open's and the upcoming 2005 PGA Championship,
Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, NJ has been home to
some of golf's most historic occasions. The famed club was
host to another historic milestone as The American Ireland
Fund held it's inaugural AIF New Jersey Classic on Baltusrol's
fabled Lower Course on a spectacular autumn afternoon on
October 6.
10 brave foursomes walked in the footsteps of Jack Nicklaus
(winner of the '67 and '80 Opens at Baltusrol) and other
PGA immortals, testing their abilities on the Lower Course's
dreaded rough, impeccably manicured fairways, and lightning
fast greens. In the end, Jamie Fitzgerald, Dennis Durkin,
Phil Cassidy and Steve Simcox, claimed victory and the right
to have their names inscribed on the AIF Cup. Dennis Durkin
also walked away with individual honors, turning in a remarkable
score of 76.
Defense of the title and the 2nd annual AIF New Jersey
Classic will take place on September 7, 2004. Many thanks
to Chuck Dolan, Anthony Callaghan, David Sheehan and Judge
John Gibbons of Gibbons, Del Deo for making our historic
day at Baltusrol possible.
