On Friday, October 30th, the Young Leaders hosted their inaugural “Cobwebs, Candles & Craic” Halloween party at N.Y.U.’s Glucksman Ireland House. Celebrating the Celtic tradition of Samhain with food, drink, games and a competition for Best Mask, the Young Leaders made this celebration’s first installment a night to remember.
Located next to Washington Square Park in historic Greenwich Village, Glucksman Ireland House (festooned with cobwebs) provided a perfect backdrop for a Halloween celebration. The AIF’s Kieran McLoughlin and Maureen Gillespie regaled guests with a brief history of Halloween and the Celtic traditions behind it, while Young Leader of the Year Pat Tully faced off against AIF staffer Kerri Farrell in an apple-bobbing competition.
Later on, Pat auctioned off a deluxe Giants package, including a walk on the field and picture with Giants’ center Shaun O’Hara, as well as two nights at five-star hotel Sheen Falls Lodge in County Kerry. The winners of the Best Mask competitions, Jennifer Byrne and Doug Cleary, were awarded gift certificates to Pearl Oyster Bar and Extra Virgin in NYC’s West Village.
Many thanks to all the Young Leaders who attended and to sponsor McSorley’s, whose generosity made for a fantastic Oíche Shamhna!
