On Thursday, April 6, The American Ireland Fund and Bob
Cunningham, Managing Director of Merrill Lynch & Co,
Inc., hosted a cocktail reception at The New York Stock
Exchange to promote the 31st Annual New York Dinner Gala.
The 2006 Dinner will take place on Thursday, May 4th at
the Waldorf Astoria.
Over one hundred guests enjoyed behind-the-scenes access
to “the floor” - the heartbeat of Wall Street
- while AIF Board Member Kip Condron, Dinner Co-Chair Cathy
Kinney and AIF Vice President Kieran McLoughlin highlighted
the projects in Ireland supported by the New York
Dinner Gala. In attendance were members of the AIF Executive
and New York Dinner Committees, along with New York Regional Advisory Board members and New York Young Leaders.
Through this year’s dinner, The American Ireland
Fund has committed very significant support to Sesame Street
in Northern Ireland. This is a milestone initiative bringing
Sesame Street’s innovative programs to Northern Ireland
to help tackle the deep divisions there. Given that children
as young as three years of age display prejudices in Northern
Ireland, its work will be of great importance. In addition,
the Dinner Gala will also support the establishment of
an integrated pre-school in Northern Ireland.
The 2006 New York Dinner Gala will honor Robert J. McCann,
Vice Chairman and President, Global Private Client Group,
Merrill Lynch & Co, Inc. and Joan Ganz Cooney, Chairman,
Executive Committee, Children’s Television Workshop.
