Eager to escape the sweltering heat of New York City, the Young Leaders gathered to celebrate the summer season at the chic downtown restaurant, B-Bar & Grill. With a beautiful open area and classic interior, B-Bar & Grill remains a consistent favorite with New York's most fashionable crowd. Featuring a garden open to the stars in the summer, it provided a fitting backdrop to one of the Young Leaders’ most popular parties. Entertainment included popular Irish rock songs by DJ Michael Flatley, a spirited live auction and a raffle. A first for The American Ireland Fund (and a highlight of the evening), the event also included an energetic piñata contest, complete with shamrock-shaped piñatas! Congratulations to the winner, Rob Fox.
In keeping with the overall Mexican-Irish theme, sombreros were placed around the venue, where people could enter to win one of the great raffle prizes on offer. Guests enjoyed the music whilst sipping on cool Sangria and savoring the chilled out atmosphere of downtown New York.
President of the AIF, Kieran McLoughlin spoke briefly about the great work of the New York Young Leaders and the projects they have supported over the last four years, including Barretstown, The National Institute for Intellectual Disability, Sesame Street and PeacePlayers International.
The Live Auction was emceed by Young Leader Patrick Tully. This year’s Live Auction prizes included a trip to Ireland, with a two-night stay at the breathtaking Rathsallagh House and 4 Box Seat Tickets to the GIANTS vs. REDSKINS season opener at Giants Stadium. The Live Auction succeeded in raising over $4,000 on the night.
The New York Young Leaders is a key program of the AIF, attracting young, successful friends of Ireland dedicated to supporting philanthropic causes throughout the island of Ireland. Following the success of the St. Patrick's Day Celebration, this year’s Summer in the City puts the Young Leaders well on the way to achieving their remarkable goal of raising more than one million dollars over a five year period.
