St.
Patrick’s Day 2008 - Breakfast
with Mayor Bloomberg
On the brisk, sunny morning of St. Patrick’s Day 2008, the New York Young Leaders joined Mayor Bloomberg for breakfast at Gracie Mansion – The Mayor’s residence on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Guest speakers at the
breakfast included Mayor Bloomberg himself
and Ireland’s Minister for Education, Mary Hanafin, TD. Minister Hanafin was presented with an honorary proclamation from the Mayor and spoke about how exciting it was for her to be in New York for St. Patrick’s Day because of the city’s great traditions, including its 247th Fifth Avenue parade. Speaker of the City Council, Christine Quinn, also accompanied Bloomberg and Hanafin at the podium.
The morning ended with
an uplifting performance by Caroline Duggan’s Irish step dancers, Keltic Dreams. Comprised of children of all ethnicities, but primarily Latino and African American, it was a great representation of New York’s embracement of Ireland.
