New York
Young Leaders - Leadership Forum
- 6.27.08
June 27th, at the private residence of Irish
Consul General, Niall Burgess, the New York
Young Leaders were joined for breakfast by
Enda Kenny, TD for their first-ever Leadership
Forum. In 2002, Deputy Kenny was elected as
leader of Irish political party Fine Gael and
is the former Minister for Tourism and Trade
in Ireland. Kenny is also the spokesperson
for Northern Ireland.
Guests convened on the
penthouse rooftop terrace to catch the picturesque
views of New York City before sitting down
to breakfast. During breakfast Deputy Kenny
discussed the importance of bringing business
to Northern Ireland and the reciprocal relationship
that will have in the Peace Process. He discussed
the direction in which he sees Northern Ireland’s
economic future progressing and reiterated
that support is needed there more now than
ever in order to keep momentum going, especially
with the change in leadership of the Unionist
party.
Young Leader, Pat Tully, emphasized
the need for integration in Northern Ireland
and the positive effect that will have on business
networking, a key factor in economic growth.
Niall Burgess pointed out the opportunity we
have to capitalize on strengthening our global
Irish network and the great things that will
do for business in Ireland and the US. The
lively conversation led to the brainstorming
of wonderful new things to come within the
global circle of Irish and Irish-American Young
Leaders.
