Our Honoree this year is one of the co-founders
of The American Ireland Fund: Sir Anthony O'Reilly,
Chairman, Waterford Wedgewoo, Plc. Sir Anthony O'Reilly
is widely regarded as one of America's most successful
business executives and is recognized for his brilliance
and acumen. His long distinguised career at H.J.
Heinz Company spanned from 1969 to 2000 when he retired
as its Chairman. He is currently Executive-Chairman
of Independent News and Media, plc - a world wide
media company based in Dublin.
Almost 30 years ago, Sir Anthony O'Reilly along
with Daniel M. Rooney, Chairman, Pittsburgh Steelers,
had the extraordinary vision to found The American
Ireland Fund. Today, The Fund is an international
organization, Which has raised $170 million to support
programs of peace and reconciliation, arts and culture,
education and community development throughout Ireland,
North and South.
We are pleased to pay tribute to this extraordinary
man and his vision. Joining us on the evening to
make the award presentation is our 2003 Honoree,
