On Wednesday, August 1st, The Philadelphia American Ireland Fund (AIF) inaugurated the Young Leaders chapter at Mad River Bar & Grille in the Society Hill section of Philadelphia. Inspired by the Philadelphia community's embrace of the AIF over the past five years and its meteoric rise to prominence within the Worldwide Ireland Funds, a core group of eight committed young Philadelphians galvanized their peers to join them in becoming part of the global AIF family.

The evening was enhanced by the impassioned oratory of several speakers who took the time to address the fledgling group. Dennis Durkin of CB Richard Ellis and Michael McCabe of Trinity Investment advisors, two of Philadelphia AIF's longstanding supporters, drew on their experiences with philanthropy through The AIF. Kevin Murray of Merrill Lynch, Sean Gaffey of eTrade and Maureen Gillespie of the New York AIF made the trip from The Big Apple to speak eloquently of their experiences in establishing the New York Young Leaders.

The AIF and Young Leaders would like to extend special thanks to Mark Sweeney and Diageo for sponsoring a Bushmill's Irish Whiskey tasting which included and fascinating presentation on the history of this famed distillery as well the art of producing this most revered beverage.

The Philadelphia Young Leaders is a key program which attracts young, educated and successful individuals. The goal is to foster and cultivate the involvement of young friends of Ireland and provide them with a forum for networking with fellow business professionals, while financially supporting the philanthropic work of The American Ireland Fund.
