The Australian Ireland Fund Brisbane Garden Party was held on Sunday 14 August 2005 at the beautifully renovated Hillstone St. Lucia, overlooking St. Lucia Golf Links. Brisbane’s top corporate people attended the event with colleagues, friends and family, they were joined by numerous members of the Brisbane Irish Community and also some of our Sydney regulars.

Guests enjoyed champagne and canapés on the terrace while taking in the spectacular views of the Golf Links before being led into the beautiful new venue decorated with old vanilla candles and white roses. Guests were treated to many forms of entertainment on the day, Irish Dancers, a traditional Irish band, but nobody was in doubt of the fact that singer Bernadette Robinson stole the show. She had people both laughing at her impersonations of Patsy Cline, Barbara Streisand and Judy Garland and in tears with her rendition of the Irish favourite ‘Oh Danny Boy’

Special guests on the day included Governor and Director Sallyanne Atkinson AO, Chairman Charles Curran AO, Governor and Director Frank Curran, Councillor Judy Magub who represented the Mayor of Brisbane and Linda Lavarch, newly appointed Attorney General and Minister for Justice who represented the Premier of Queensland Peter Beattie. Chairman Charles Curran congratulated the new Attorney General and wished her well.

The Chairman also welcomed out new Brisbane based Director, Dr. Tom Moore. Over $52,000 was raised on the day for which we have to thank both our live and silent auction sponsors and bidders. The highlight of the live auction was the Qantas business class trip to Europe which was generously bought by Dr’s Frank and Ailbhe Cunningham. We cannot thank all our sponsors and those who got into the spirited act of bidding, enough.
