On the evening of 20 February 2004, Australian Ireland
Fund Chairman and Governor Charles Curran AO, hosted
a drinks reception for John Spellar MP, The UK
Minister of State for Northern Ireland at ‘the
Judges House’ the oldest house in Sydney.
During the evening, the Right Honourable Spellar
congratulated the Australian Ireland Fund on
its work and stated that he had observed at first
hand
the valuable contribution being made by a number
of projects that the Fund supports and he wished
to encourage the continuing work of the Ireland
Funds.
The Minister particularly commended the initiative
involving integrated education and advised us that
the announcement had that day been made by the Minister
for Education, the Rt Hon Jane Kennedy, MP of approval
for the establishment of four new integrated schools,
the transformation of two existing primary schools
to integrated status and an increase in admissions
to two integrated post- primary schools.
Those who attended the reception included Irish
Consul General Anne Webster, British Consul General
Peter Beckingham, Director and Governor Cameron O’Reilly,
Director and Governor Peter Cosgrove, Director Jane
Cosgrove and Executive Director Teresa Keating.
