In the National Capital it was the who’s who of the social and political scene coming together for fun and the work of the Ireland Fund at the Ottawa Emerald Ball at the historic Chateau Laurier. The Special Guest of Honour the Premier of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty, provided a most engaging recount of growing up in a large Irish Canadian family drawing on his grandmother’s Irish wit in her approach to life.

The elegant ball held on Saturday, April 30 th was sponsored by generous corporations including our Pillar Sponsor: Diageo Canada and Premier Sponsors: Bradley Kelly Construction, Kelly Howard LLP, Sakto Corporation and Ziedler Walker. Dignitaries in attendance that evening were the Irish Ambassador Martin Burke and Mrs. Mary Burke and the British High Commissioner David Reddaway and Mrs. Roshan Reddaway, David McGuinty, MP and former Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance John Manley, Jim Watson, MPP and Mr. Norm Sterling, MPP. Grace was provided by Father Michael F. Crotty, Embassy of the Holy See and from Cork, Ireland. Patrick Murray, Chair of the Ottawa Chapter and his tremendous committee of volunteers worked diligently to ensure an evening of Irish entertainment and a band that kept all on the dance floors into the early hours of May!
