The 13th Annual Emerald Ball held at the Edmonton Crowne
Plaza Hotel on March 17 was a huge success. Our guest
speaker was well known author, Frank Delaney who captured
the evening with his wit and story telling. He generously
donated a copy of his book “ Ireland” to each
of the attendees. Special guests included the Mayor of
Edmonton, Mr. Stephen Mandell and his wife Lynn; the Minister
for Inter-Governmental Affairs, Mr. Ed Stelmach and his
wife Marie; Edmonton Chief of Police, Mr. Mike Boyd and
his wife Margo. Other dignitaries included the Honorary
Consuls of: Ireland, Mrs. Doodie Cahill; the Netherlands,
Mr. Alan Blaiken; Puerto Rico, Mr. Curtis Sparrow; Norway,
Mr. Roar Tugland; and Thailand, Mr. Dennis Anderson.
Following Mr. Delaney’s reading from his book “ Ireland” the
guests enjoyed a performance by the Mattieran School of
Irish Dancing, followed by a silent and live auction, which
raised funds for future Ireland Fund projects. Our generous
corporate sponsors included: the Chateau de la Ligne, Jameson’s
Irish Whisky, Revlon Canada, Tourism Ireland, Holt Renfrew,
Diamori’s Jewellers, and Ward’s Auctions.
The band “Shaken Not Stirred” topped off
the evening with guests dancing the night away and making
for a very memorable St. Patrick’s Day.
