There was a buzz in Ottawa's cool night air on Saturday April 21, 2006 as two hundred and eighty guests enjoyed an evening of cocktails, dinner, dancing and stories on the banks of the Rideau Canal at the Chateau Laurier.
Seamus O'Regan, co-host of CTV's flagship morning show, Canada AM, was the speaker regaling guests including Julian Evans of the British High Commission, David Keating of the Irish Embassy, Monsignor Michael Crotty of the Papal Nuncio, Treasury Board Minister John Baird, Health Promotion Minister Jim Watson, Laurel Murray, Director of the Liquor Control Board of Ontario and The Ireland Fund of Canada's own National Chair, Susan Storey.
Features of the evening included a silent auction of a luncheon for ten as the guest of the British High Commissioner and his wife at historic Earnscliffe and a holiday package for two to Ireland put together by Tourism Ireland and Zoom Airlines, a live auction of a week's stay at Terry Cross' Chateau de la Ligne in Bordeaux put together by Ted Murphy, and a raffle prize of a handcrafted emerald pendant set in diamonds made designer Shane Alexander of GoldForm Jewellers.
Dinner committee members included Patrick Dion (who emceed the event), Jane Daly (who did just about everything else), David Draper, Brian Murray, Elizabeth Murphy, Laurel Murray, Brendan McGuinty and Chapter President and National Director Patrick Murray.
