John Hume
Le 8 juillet 2002, après
une audience privée, S.A.S. le prince Rainier
de Monaco, accompagné de S.A.S. le Prince Albert
de Monaco, remit à John Hume, membre du Parlement
de Westminster et du Parlement Européen, les
insignes de commandeur de l'Ordre de Saint Charles.
Architecte incontesté
du processus de paix en Irlande du Nord, John Hume
a participé à de nombreux colloques
sur l'Irlande, organisés tant à Monaco
qu'à Nice par M. Pierre Joannon, président
de l'Ireland Fund de France.
En 1995, trois ans avant de recevoir
le Prix Nobel de la Paix, il s'était vu conférer
les insignes de Docteur honoris causa de l'Université
de Nice-Sophia Antipolis sur proposition du doyen
de l'Institut du Droit de la Paix et du Développement.

Le 27 mai 2002, l'Ambassadeur
de France en Irlande, M. Gabriel de Bellescize, remettait
les insignes de chevalier dans l'Ordre National de
la Légion d'Honneur à M. Pierre Joannon
"pour sa contribution remarquable au renforcement
de l'amitié franco-irlandaise, notamment dans
les domaines culturels et humanitaires".
A cette consécration du
rôle de l'Ireland Fund de France dans le resserrement
des liens entre la France et l'Irlande, assistaient
notamment les Prix Nobel Seamus Heaney et John Hume;
les anciens Premier ministres Garrett FitzGerald et
Charles J. Haughey; l'Ambassadeur d'Irlande au Portugal
Patrick O'Connor et son épouse; le sénateur
Maurice Hayes; le Rev. Edward Malloy, CSC, Président
de l'Université américaine de Notre
Dame dans l'Indiana ; l'ancien Secrétaire Général
du Ministère des Affaires Etrangères
Sean Donlon; le Dr. T.K. Whitaker; l'ancien Ambassadeur
de l'Union Européenne Denis Corboy; les Professeurs

John Hume
On the 8th of July 2002, following
a private audience, H.S.H. Prince Rainier of Monaco,
accompanied by H.S.H. Prince Albert of Monaco, conferred
on M. John Hume, M.P., M.E.P., the rank of Commander
of the Order of Saint Charles.
Since the late seventies, John
Hume has spoken frequently on the Northern Ireland
conflict at numerous conferences organised by the
chairman of the Ireland Fund of France Pierre Joannon
either in Monaco or in Nice.
In 1995, three years before receiving
the Nobel Peace Prize, he was awarded an honorary
degree by the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis
on the recommendation of the Dean of the Institut
du Droit de la Paix et du Développement.

The 27th of May 2002, the French
Ambassador to Ireland, M. Gabriel de Bellescize, conferred
the Légion d'honneur, the highest distinction
awarded for services rendered to the French republic,
to Chairman of the Ireland Fund of France Pierre Joannon
"for his remarkable contribution towards the
strengthening of Franco-Irish relations".
In addition to Mr Joannon's family
those in attendance included two Nobel prize winners,
Seamus Heaney and John Hume; two former Taoisigh Dr
Garrett FitzGerald and Charles J. Haughey; the Irish
Ambassador in Portugal Patrick O'Connor and his wife;
Senator Maurice Hayes; Rev. Edward Malloy, CSC, President
of the University of Notre Dame, Indiana; former Secretary
General of the Department of Foreign Affairs Sean
Donlon ; Dr. T.K. Whitaker; former Ambassador of the
European Union Denis Corboy; and academics Joe Lee,
Tom Bartlett and Kevin Whelan.
