On September 8th The Ireland Fund of Germany
held his annual Charity Dinner
in Frankfurt. The Dinner which took place in
the beautiful setting of the "Literaturhaus
Frankfurt" was
attended by 70 guests. The Chairman of The
Ireland Fund of Germany, Elmar Conrads-Hassel,
who hosted the evening, was
pleased to welcome Kingsley Aikins, President
and CEO of The Ireland Funds
worldwide and the Irish Ambassador to Germany,
H.E. David Donoghue and Jill
Donoghue as Guests of Honour.
Elmar Conrads-Hassel and Kingsley Aikins rewarded An
Duais, the newly
established annual award for outstanding academic
achievements in the field
of Irish Studies (including Anglo-Irish Studies)
and especially Irish-German
Studies to Professor Stefan Zimmer, University
of Bonn.
The proceeds of the Dinner were donated to the
Barretstown Gang Camp,
based in Co. Kildare which gives children with
serious illnesses, such as
cancer and leukaemia, an opportunity to experience
the joy of a typical
summer camp in an atmosphere of love, friendship
and round-the-clock medical
care.
The the Barretstown
Gang Camp is
the first programme of its kind in
Europe. Every year, over 1400 children from 20
European countries, including
over 200 from Germany, benefit from staying at
the the Barretstown Gang
Camp free of charge.
