About the IFGB

Charitable Trust

Established in 1988, The Ireland Fund of Great Britain distributes funds to community organisations across the UK whose focus is to support those of Irish descent who are in health, housing, social or psychological need.

Current Focus

Our current focus is to raise substantial funds and awareness for the vulnerable and elderly Irish in the UK.

The IFGB Board

The IFGB is run by an IFGB Board of volunteers and co-chaired by Basil Geoghegan and Ruth McCarthy.

The Team

Based in offices in London Bridge there is a small administrative team who each have a unique role within The IFGB:

Sheila Bailey – Executive Director
Sheila became Executive Director in November 2010, she hails from Dundalk in County Louth.  Sheila oversees everything within the IFGB from the finance to the events to the grants.

Sean Henderson – Finance
Sean comes from Buncrana in County Donegal.  He is responsible for all aspects of finance in the IFGB from the annual audit to processing major donations and gift aid to controlling the petty cash.

Elaine Meade Hill – Events Manager
Born in Limerick, Elaine joined The IFGB in October 2007. She manages our annual gala events such as the Winter Ball, in London’s iconic Savoy hotel, the Rugby Lunch, the annual Golf Tournament and The Forgotten Irish Award.

Laura Quinn – Grant Making & Development Executive
Laura joined the IFGB in December 2007; she is from Armagh in the North of Ireland.  Laura’s main areas of responsibility are to oversee the grant making process, the IFGB’s Supporters Network, maintaining the website and promoting the IFGB through all forms of social media, such as facebook and twitter.

How We Are Helping

Since 2007 The IFGB has awarded close to one million pounds to organisations throughout the UK in cities like Leeds, London, Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham that seek to address the needs of vulnerable or elderly Irish people.

How we raise funds

The IFGB does not receive or seek government funding; we rely on donations from private individuals, corporations and other non-statutory sources. We host fundraising events, prize draws and auctions all proceeds go towards helping Irish people in need in Britain.

We are grateful to all our Corporate Partners who have given generously. Their contribution ensures that the maximum amount of your donation goes directly to the organisations we support, rather than on administration and fundraising costs.

What do we do with the money we raise?

The IFGB invites charities, community groups and voluntary organisations to apply for a grant from The IFGB. These Grants are used to fund organisations that provide essential services to members of the Irish community across the UK. Grants are only distributed following a thorough assessment of all applications by our Grants Assessment Committee.
