The splendid art deco ballroom at The Park Lane
Hotel provided a suitably glamorous backdrop for
our largest and most glittering event to date in
Britain. Almost five hundred IFGB supporters were
in attendance. Our Guest of Honour, HE Daithí O’Ceallaigh,
Ambassador of Ireland, has always given much valued
support to The Ireland Funds on both sides of the
Atlantic in the course of his impressive diplomatic
career.
The Laurent-Perrier reception and speeches were
followed by a programme packed with fun and games.
Competition was friendly but fierce for the Bling
Bling Fizz Quiz, and the introduction of the Diamond
Dance Derby proved that the audience included more
than a few closet Fred & Gingers. Our ever popular
auctioneer, Charlie Ross, put in his usual sparkling
performance but was seriously ‘out-blinged’ by
the surprise appearance of a very special guest,
Mr Diamond Geezer, and his glitzy entourage of Ballroom
Helpers, which rumour has it, included his very own
Gucci stylist.
Along side “Diamond” were delectable
pickings in the auction, which included a bespoke
suit; luxury spa and hotel breaks in Park Hotel Kenmare,
Harrods and The Berkeley Hotel London; highly collectable
Irish Art from Florence Fine Art and in keeping with
the theme – a timeless Diamond necklace from
McKenna Jewellery.
The committee of the event – Garrett Hayes,
Ciara Hunt, Ruth McCarthy, Basil Geoghegan and Amanda
Gallagher, would especially like to thank Laurent-Perrier,
Folli Follie, McKennas Jewellers, Mille Fox, Independent
