Wood Wogan Invitational Golf : Doonbeg Golf Club Sept. 2007

Nestled in the parish of Doonbeg on the west coast of County Clare, Doonbeg Golf Club provided a spectacular setting for the inaugural W2 Wood Wogan Invitational tournament on September 26th and 27th. Golfers and their wives and partners enjoyed the relaxed hospitality of this award winning resort and the challenge of the links course, a product of the creative genius of Greg Norman.  

The event was organised jointly by Ireland Fund supporters Sir Terry Wogan and former Irish rugby international Dr. Keith Wood. The event began with a practice round of golf followed by a delicious BBQ buffet. Entertainment was provided during the evening by the world renowned Irish traditional musicians Finbar Furey and Davy Spillane. The following morning thirty-six teams, each with a celebrity Captain from the worlds of sport and television, took to the golf course on a picture perfect day to raise much needed funds for projects in the County Clare region including the Paralysed Rugby Players’ Fund and the University of Limerick Foundation.

The Gala dinner and prize-giving provided a fitting finale to a most memorable couple of days. Ray McLaughlin’s team were tournament champions led by Captain Will Greenwood and including Andy Butler, Morgan Sheehy and Mick Brown. They were followed closely by Eddie Jordan’s team of Marie Jordan, Michael Duffy and Brain Shaw. The event is next scheduled for 2009.
