Glucksman
Chair of Irish and Scottish Studies - 22 Feb
2008
On Friday February 22nd, guests joined Loretta
Brennan Glucksman in the Merrion Hotel, Dublin
to welcome the Principal and Vice Chancellor
of the University of Aberdeen, Professor C Duncan
Rice and his wife Susan Rice CBE and to celebrate
the Glucksman Chair in Irish and Scottish studies
which has been established in the University.
This Chair is the first in this subject area
in any University established in perpetuity and
is developing interdisciplinary and comparative
research in Irish and Scottish history, literature,
language and culture and is drawing on a wide
range of disciplines within the Humanities and
Social Sciences.
The Chair is building strong
links with Trinity College Dublin and New York
University and is further strengthening the research
base in Irish and Scottish studies. The current
Chair is the eminent scholar Professor Cairns
Craig, who is making a major contribution to
this new but vital and relevant field of study.
