A Little Piece of History

Tall Ships Dinner : Belfast : 16th Aug 2009

History was made on August 16th when the first-ever fundraiser to benefit The Ireland Funds took place in Northern Ireland.  The dinner, hosted by Belfast Harbour Commissioners, raised monies for two charities directly supporting the youth of Northern Ireland; PeacePlayers International and Belfast Lough Sailability. 

Held against the backdrop of the visiting Tall Ships Race and in the splendor of the Belfast Harbour Commissioner’s premises, the event was a sell-out. 

New York Dinner Committee member, long-time supporter of The Ireland Funds and Chairman of Belfast Harbour Commissioners, Len O’Hagan, welcomed the 180 guests to the hugely successful evening.  He paid tribute in particular to his colleagues, especially Roy Adair, CEO of Belfast Harbour Commissioners. 

Kieran McLoughlin, President of The American Ireland Fund, reflected on how encouraging it was to see support coming from Northern Ireland, particularly in the midst of such a challenging year.

The evening was a celebration of Belfast and all that it has to offer to the resident, visitor and investor.
