The
Ireland Fund Japan held a reception for the Irish
Special Olympics team in Nagano on February 24th
2005.

There
were 100 attendees
representing the team and officials, the host families
and Mayor from
the host town, Mure Village, the 30 SO Volunteers
from Ireland as well
as local supporters and Directors of the IFJ. The
supporters included
students from a local school who had spent time studying
in Ireland. The
Irish Supporters Group from Chiba, which was formed
to support the Irish
team in the 2002 World Cup, also attended.
The evening was a great success and the IFJ provided
a meal and
refreshments for all the attendees.The President
of IFJ, Gerry Lanigan
presented the team and officials with momemtoes of
their visit to Japan
while recognising their achievements in qualifying
for the Irish team.
The team was overwhelmed by the event and went away
extremely happy and
motivated. They were very successful and the 8 athletes
all won medals.
