To mark and recognise
a unique Irish/New Zealand feat considered one
of the world’s most remarkable acts of
heroism. The life-saving journey of Irishmen
Sir Ernest Shackleton and Tom Crean with New
Zealander Frank Worsley who travelled across
horrendous seas and uncharted, mountainous terrain
to the Stromness Whaling Station on South Georgia
in order to save the lives of 22 men and To raise
funds for the conservation of the expedition
bases of Sir Ernest Shackleton and Captain Scott
which still stand in Antarctica today; monuments
to a remarkable period of adventure and discovery
