Irish Literature Exhibition 2005

The Ireland Fund of New Zealand helped to fund the opening of the Auckland City Library Irish Literature Exhibition titled “ Ireland: a personal view”.

Attended by Trustee, Mary Horgan, the exhibition marked the occasion of John Stacpoole’s generous gift of his Irish book collection to Auckland City Libraries. Stacpoole is an architect, architectural historian and author born in New Zealand and with Irish ancestry -his Stacpoole family came from Ireland in the nineteenth century.

The exhibition included a selection of books which explore Ireland’s literature, landscape, art and people and many of the books were first editions with some dated from the 17th and 18th centuries.
