Paul Newman 1925-2008, a tribute
Like so many around the world we were deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Paul Newman. He was of course an outstanding actor, artist and icon of the 20th century and a tremendous ambassador for America around the world.
He was also an exceptional philanthropist through the Newman's Own Foundation. Perhaps his greatest philanthropic legacy is the Hole in the Wall Gang Camps for ill children.
The only camp outside the U.S is in Barretstown co. Kildare, Ireland.
At our 2007 New York dinner, in the presence of the President of Ireland Mary McAleese, we honored Paul and made a major gift to Barretstown.
• Paul’s speech at 2007 Gala Dinner >
We wish to extend our sympathies to Joanne Woodward, his loving wife for over forty years, his family and many, many friends
He is remembered and loved as a tremendous artist and a very generous man across America and Ireland.
May he rest in peace.
