connemara community radio
CCR is a community-based and operated radio station, broadcasting 10 hours a day to Northwest Connemara. Run by a small core staff and a volunteer base of 85 people, independent programming is transmitted daily to approximately 10,500 people since 1998. This includes the areas of Recess, Leenane, Cashel, Roundsone, Ballyconneely, Renvyle, Cleggan, Claddaghduff, and Inishbofin Island. This dedicated volunteer base of technicians, producers and presenters is committed to bringing eclectic and unique radio to the region.

Programming concentrates on local material and is largely speech orientated. The station furnishes the area with a reliable channel for information, debate on issues and developments affecting the region. CCR has provided a forum to the richness and diversity of interests, skills, and views of the people of the area. The Ireland Funds continue to support the important work of the station, particularly with a view to combating the isolation and loneliness of this rural locality, especially for the elderly, the disabled, and the housebound.

“The AIF has helped us to train volunteers for Inishbofin and Clifden studios in order to provide access to radio for more communities.”
