roscommon travellers
development group
Part of the Irish Traveller Movement, the Roscommon Traveller
Support Group addresses policy issues of concern to travellers
such as accommodation, education, youth, and equality.
These regional networks
of the Irish Traveller Movement aim to increase
traveller participation and offer support at a local level.
Roscommon Travellers Support Group is an integrated group
made up of traveller adults, children and settled people.
It has established a resource center in Ballyforan to cater
for both communities. Activities include a crèche,
youth club, homework club, women’s group, training
rooms, sports hall and games rooms. The group also aims
to lobby for traveller rights and network with other traveller
organizations. Support from The Ireland Funds has helped
furnish this center.
"We
would greatly appreciate assistance towards a training
project for young Travellers who have left school early.
The training programme is hoped to be an educational project
based on cultural sharing between Travellers, settled young
people and non-EU nationals in Roscommon town.”
