| Making Peace - Celebrate
a New Day! |
People
in Northern Ireland are
finding personal peace, making peace with one
another, and forging a society in which peace,
on a broader scale, can endure.
Move through these pages (see
page links above) and feel that day progress.
In the ten years since
the first
cease-fire and the six since the Good Friday
Agreement,
Northern Ireland has made great strides toward
reconciliation.
More and more, individuals
from the Catholic and Protestant traditions
are talking to each other, working together,
and shedding generations-old biases. They’re
feeling heard and unburdened, free to look
to the future rather than dwell in the past.
For our part, we’ve assembled a chain
of strength to help. We’ve identified
organizations whose work in the area of peace
and reconciliation warrants our support; the
organizations, then, provide services that
empower and connect people; the people themselves
take the initiative to change their lives and
their communities for the better; and of course,
thanks to the support of each advertiser that
sponsors a page, this book transforms names
and statistics into real people with powerful
stories.
Like our forebears, we of Irish heritage are
a tenacious and spirited lot, and directing
this considerable energy toward creating a
more peaceful Northern Ireland is indeed something
to celebrate. |
