BoysHope GirlsHope
For many young people abuse and neglect may be at the
root of their difficulties and they will be unable to return
home. For others, the opportunity to remain at home and
overcome their difficulties with their family is the approach
supported by the Boys Hope outreach service.
Established in 1994, Boys Hope provides support to families
and children at risk. The organization operates a residential
unit in Galway, where young people are offered security
and stability. The young person is supported in completing
their education, addressing the issues that resulted in
their leaving home and preparing for independence.
Since its inception Boys Hope Ireland
has worked with over 80 young people and their families. This
organization has helped many of these young people to move
away from the petty crime and homelessness that they were
experiencing Boys Hope Girls Hope also provides an outreach
service to support others remaining at home in overcoming
their family difficulties.
Boys Hope Girls Hope, working to develop
its program further, has purchased a second home in Galway
and is seeking to develop it as an after care center, providing
accommodation and support to young people making the transition
from residential care to independent accommodation in the
community.
The organization also has secured a
site in Limerick where it is seeking to develop a residential
care center for up to six young people and a facility for
preparing young people for independent living in the community.
The support of The Ireland Funds
in the ongoing development of the Boys Hope Girls Hope program
has been invaluable.
