Northern Ireland Children’s Enterprise (NICE)
NICE assists young people, parents and families, Catholics
and Protestants, in strife-torn areas of Belfast
by providing a place where those young people can
meet to reconcile their often violent situations.
NICE continues to provide a very important first point
of contact for many young Catholics and Protestants. Recent
statistics showed that seventy nine percent of the young
people with whom NICE works had never met a Catholic
or Protestant before doing so through NICE.
It
is important that their work in reconciliation continues
to grow, so that intimidation and sectarianism are
not experienced by future generations of people in
Northern Ireland.
How We Helped
NICE received AU$50,000 in 2007 in further
support of their ‘Living with Diversity Programme’.
In 1998, NICE purchased its second facility to use
as a meeting place, resource and training center
for young people and parents and to give the project
a focal point in the city. The property is situated
in a neutral area convenient to both communities
in Belfast. . We
have named the center Australia House due to a substantial
grant from The Australian Ireland Fund

Program aims and objectives:
- We provide a neutral meeting space for young
people, volunteers, parents and community groups
- We develop links within communities and between
communities
- We provide a range of community relations programs
where people can develop understanding and mutual
respect
- We create and expand programs which will give
people the skills required to support our work
and to develop work within their own communities
- We provide a training and development base for
volunteers
